This photograph was taken during the Mona Lisa’s seven-week tour of the United States (U.S.) in 1963. This image shows the line of people waiting to catch a glimpse of the Mona Lisa in New York City. During its exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, over one million people came to view this masterpiece. The Mona Lisa was displayed Medieval Sculpture Hall from February 6th to March 4th 1963. This is the fourth image in “The Trials, Travels and Thrills of the Mona Lisa”, because this display was only the second to occur outside of France with the consent of the French government (with the first exhibit being the display in Washington DC). After it’s exhibition in New York City, the Mona Lisa returned to France and remained there for 11 years.
